Can Hypnosis Increase Breast Size?

Does Hypnosis work for Breast Enlargement – (Augmenthation)

Is it really possible to increase the size of your Breasts using Hypnosis? Could it possibly be a fact that you can use the power of your mind, relaxation, and guided imagery to grow larger boobs?  The short answer seems to be a ‘Yes’ and it has studies and evidence to back up the claim. But as with any claim that seems too good to be true it – it deserves further investigation.

As a Psychologist and Hypnotherapist very grounded in the real and proven application of Hypnotherapy; as shown with legitimate scientific studies – this topic raises my skeptical eye somewhat.  If you have investigated this yourself you will see cithations of this evidence on almost every breast enlargement hypnotists websites from research that has been done which supports the claims that you can increase the size of breast tissue using hypnosis.  However, while the personal testimonials of hypnotherapy clients throughout the world are numerous (my own clients included) the reality is a little different when it comes to the evidence.

The Evidence of Hypnosis for Bigger Breasts. A closer look

Can Hypnosis make Breasts Bigger

There are indeed published and submitted papers from studies that do tend to indicate that breast can grow a few inches using hypnotherapy. But (and it is a big but) almost all of these studies were published before 1980, and not much has appear since. The most widely cited evidence was from a research paper by  Peter H.C. Mutke,[1], who presented a paper to the Department of Neuropsychiatry, University of California.  This paper appears not to have been published in any journals and a web search will only ever provide results for the copy and paste of the reference to the article.  It is possible that this reference is an urban myth created merely by hypnotist attempting to sell their products and copying references from each others pages. Dr Mutke is according to many of the cithations still at the university, but I found no one who had taken the time or effort to request a copy of his paper.

Better evidence is found in a study conducted by James Williams [2] who had 13 subjects who averaged 2.11 inch increase in the circumference of their breasts (2 cup sizes). This study was presented and peer-reviewed to be published in the Journal of Sex Research, so we can be sure the science behind the approach was sincere – but a sample size of 13 people does not really contribute in a high quality sthatistical way to the totality of evidence that using guided imagery and relaxation will guarantee results.

It is important to understand how science creates it evidence from studies it produces.  First of all a method has to be used where the opposite result to the one being tested or a nil result can be determined.  If a study shows a result for a particular event, other researchers will then retest the method to see if those results were a fluke, wrong or correct.  Once the method has been confirmed, more research is done that usually modifies one element of the method, and then compares the new results to what is already known.  In this way, the progression of knowledge grows from a systematic approach that can eliminate aspects that do not work and focus on the aspects that do.

A few years later Staib & Logan [3] repeated Williams research and found that there results confirmed the growth of breasts and in addition produced a reduction in the waist size of 1.4 inches.  They also followed up on their subjects and found that 81% of the breast size increase was maintained several months after the women had stopped using their guided imagery for increasing size.

In the same year Willard [4] modified his approach by using a different method of hypnosis instruction. Williams used age progression and regression, getting the subjects to imagine a time when their breasts were first starting to grow, and then a future time when they were larger. Willard examined the idea of suggesting a hormonal change in women bodies similar to much of the approach that is used today.  The main points of Willard’s research are

  • At the end of 12 weeks, 28% had reached the goal they had set at the beginning of the program and desired no further enlargement.
  • There were 85% who could tell a significant enlargement in their breasts had been accomplished, and 46% found it necessary to buy a larger bra. Forty-two percent had a loss in weight of greater than 4 pounds and still had enlargement of their breasts.
  • The average increase in circumference was 1.37 inches; the average increase in the vertical measurement was 0.67 inches and the average increase in horizontal measurement was 1.01 inches…. [note: the study was continued past 12 weeks to let those who hadn’t reach their goals to do so.]
  • In this study, 63% of the subjects had children and complained of pendulous breasts. These subjects expressed a desire to reclaim the fullness and contour of the breasts which they had before the pregnancies. All of these subjects reported they were very pleased with the increase in fullness and firmness of their breasts at the end of the study….
  • The only two subjects who subjectively felt there had been no significant increase, did have a measurable increase in size. Both subjects had difficulty obtaining the visualizations. All of the subjects reported an increase in firmness of their breasts. All of the subjects who began the study with one breast smaller than the other found them to be equal in size at the end of the twelve weeks.

In 1979 Roy Beran [5] who was a neurologist at Adelaide Children’s Hospital in England, conducted a 3 month study which was not published but reported in a medical hypnotherapy convention. Dr. Beran measured the breast growth by volume rather than circumference by placing the breasts in a container of water and seeing how much volume of water was spilled due to the volume of the women’s breast.  His results showed a 200% increase in the total volume of breast size after 3 months use of hypnosis.

Conclusion:

Can Hypnosis increase Breast sizeUsing Hypnosis to increase the size of your Breasts does seem to have significant results in previous psychological studies. However these studies are old and there seems to no longer be any interest in the medical or hypnotherapy research areas on continuing to study this effect.

Sadly this means that the mechanism from which we can answer the question “How does Hypnosis work to increase Beast Size”? remains unanswered.  The result is that hypnotherapist have taken to attempt to explain the results, by making assumptions that can not be verified. We do not know for example that it is possible to increase the amount of hormones in the body that initially produced breast enlargement during puberty, nor if guided imagery is able to change the body shape of the tissue itself.  These questions remained unknown and open to speculation.

If it helps, Science discovered how bleach works in 2011. We have been using bleach for a long time before we understood how it actually produced the effect that it did. There was enough evidence for the effectiveness of bleach, that much like someone interested in natural Breast Augmenthation, or jumping into a car to go shopping, the importance of understanding how it works does not matter to most consumers. You use bleach, you drive your car and maybe you will also feel comfortable using hypnotherapy to give you bigger Boobs without needing or evening caring how it actually works as well.

The Concept of Hypnosis for Breast Enlargement

Almost without exception the standard format of a hypnotherapy session for enlargement of breasts follows the same basic outline.

  • The hypnotic Induction (a scripted guided imagery to take you into a mentally and physically relaxed state (Trance)
  • The use of an age regression taking you back to puberty where hormones that increase breast size were created
  • Additional suggestions and imagery of your Breast actually getting pumped up and larger
  • The Wake up Procedure (bringing you back to the real world)

Of course there will be a variety of difference within each product. Some will use a New Age type ‘the mind can do anything’ approach, others might use direct suggestions, or a guided medithation type approach, or a combination of each. Some will sell you just a session for Breast Enlargement, other therapists will insist you also need a session for Body Image and Self Esteem and bundle them into a more expensive package. It is important to note that the hypnosis sessions used in the studies are more likely, to NOT use a bundled or supernatural approach. They will be based on the more plausible use of suggestive therapy and used guided imagery that did not require a huge suspension of belief in the impossible.

While this therapist tends to use hypnosis for Attitude, Belief and Behavior modification and not for physical change as a general rule, I do have a Breast Enlargement Hypnotherapy Session in my product range.  For the longest time I was reluctant to provide such a title – but had many past clients request it based on their previous results on other session. I looked at the research, and while not convincing, nor offering a method of a script to use (most other sessions are based on research for script creation) I created and provided the session.  The feedback on results has been very good, and I feel comfortable with providing this session for clients.

Scientific Research Cited for Hypnotic Breast Enlargement

[1] Peter H.C. Mutke, M.D. (UCLA) – Submitted research paper on Mental Techniques for Breast Development to the Department of Neuropsychiatry, University of California, Los Angeles, February 28, 1971.

[2] Williams, J.E. conducted research on Stimulation of Breast Growth by Hypnosis. “Journal of Sex Research,” 1974, 10:316-326. His thirteen volunteers averaged 2.11 inch increase in the circumference of their breasts (2 cup sizes).

[3] Staib, A.R., and Logan, D.R., Hypnotic Stimulation of Breast Growth. “The American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis,” 1977, 4:201-208. They repeated
Dr. Williams’ results with similar results. They also found women’s waist size decreased by 1.4 inches. Their follow up study showed that 81 % of the breast enlargement was retained several months after the women stopped their visual imagery.

[4] Willard, R. D., Breast enlargement through visual imagery and hypnosis. “The American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis,” 1977, 4:195-200. Dr Willard used a different technique than Dr. Williams (who used age regression and age progression) and achieved an average 1.44 inch increase in breast size for his 22 volunteers. Every woman had an increase in their breast circumference.

[5] Beran, Roy (a neurologist at Adelaide Children’s Hospital, England) presented the results of his study to the February 1979 National Convention of Hypnotherapists in Adelaide. Dr. Beran showed that the breast volume (he measured the breast’s cubic displacement of water) more than doubled during the three month hypnosis program.
