PayPal closes a 14 year old account in good standing – claiming violation of user policies (but in 18 months of being asked to clarify- only replied with the same copy and paste email ) – end up stealing Money from Thailand Charity providing education and food for Burmese Children escaping Child Labor. All because PayPal’s customer service people 99% of the time do not bother to reply to emails rather send copy and paste responses that are not helpful.

Media Interest Contact Me

PayPal Acceptable Use Policy staff admit user Andrew Dobson was banned from ever having a PayPal account again for his 14 year old Hypnosis Website because of repeated violation’s, despite taking 18 months to ACTUALLY reply to almost 100 emails asking for clarification of the Violation.  When one customer service agent did take the 5 minutes required to actually point out the issue (one offsite link on one page in a 360 page website) the offending page was instantly removed.

PayPal claim they are unable to release funds on several accounts opened by Mr Dobson them closed by PayPal – even though customer service acknowledge the instant they informed him of the violation it was remedied.  They have said ANY new account associated with Mr Dobson will be instantly closed.  Ignoring that the funds held and the PayPal account are used for charities preventing Child Labor in Thailand, and that 5 online businesses are using PayPal.

The Case Background in a Nutshell

1. Around February 2016, PayPal advised of a claim of a notice of copyright infringement being lodged against a psychology test I used to provide on my Hypnosis Website.  I no longer provide the test itself but I provided a link on one page on my 360 page website to another location where the test could be found.  At the time I advised PayPal that my understanding was as the software was created and copyrighted by another person who the company claiming copyright failed to win a case in court.  I advised them that the lawyers should be asked for more proof.   NB I did not know this point was relevant until June 2017

2. PayPal sent an email stating they sided with the copyright claim.  This was no concern to me as I no longer had anything to do with the Test on my Website.  NB I did not know this point was relevant until June 2017

3. In the meantime, unaware of points 1 and 2, I wanted to change the Bank Account associated with my PayPal account of over 14 years use (along with credit card).  PayPal suggest that in order to do this you need to create a new PayPal account.  Since February 2016 I created over 6 accounts in both New Zealand (my home country) and Thailand (where I currently lived and are involved with business and charities

4. These new PayPal accounts would operate for a few days then get limited (which would keep your money and permanently prevent you from using any bank account associated with it on another account.

5. I could not understand what was happening.  All I wanted to do was have my oldest website income be deposited into another Bank Account, and use PayPal for new online businesses I had started.  One of which was associated with and helps with a Charity organization that provided schools for children of Burmese migrant workers.

I would write emails to PayPal asking why?  I would explain that I was attempting to do as they advised and open a new account to be able to deposit funds in the Bank of the country I now live (rather than the United States Bank Account).  I would over the year and a half write over 100 emails, which ALWAYS got the standard Copy and Paste Reply

N.B.  Obviously this email offers no help at all.  Worse is the sneaky way PayPal will send this email from the email address  service@intl.paypal.com  but then you have to reply to aup@paypal.com.  Doing this removes ANY history you may have had with a customer service agent

I would email with email titles such as …

“30th Email please have real person read it not send copy and paste reply”
“Just want to change Banks for Deposit, Please Help”
“I Used PayPal for 14 Years without a Problem, please help me fix this”
“You taken over $40,000 in fees, I deserve a Real Person to take 5 minutes to explain”
“This is a New Account, open for 2 days – How can it violate anything”
“Please specify what part of the TOS I am not complying with”
60th Email and you still just copy and paste but not answer my question”

I could not understand what was happening.  From my point of view all I wanted to do was have the money earned from an account I have had for 14 years, deposit money into a New Zealand Bank and not an American one.

6. PayPal does not allow accounts held in Thailand or Burma have the ability to provide donation buttons, so Mr Dobson used his 14 year old PayPal account (mp3@mindfithypnosis) which was never closed, (unlike the new accounts Mr Dobson tried to open with PayPal), was used to pay for domain names, hosting accounts and websites such as GoFundMe.

Andrew Dobson now lives in Thailand and assist many Thai people to start their own business online.  Each business allows a few Thai families to earn more than a few hundred $US a month and create a future.  PayPal has stated they will close ANY account that Andrew Dobson is associated with, without a right of Appeal.  I can not personal express how disgusted I am the PayPal company does this without any investigation.

Please Note:  All this time as I am helping people start business, and having my accounts closed I am under the opinion it is because …..  I can not have a PayPal account with an American Bank and have one with a Bank in another country despite that being the country of the business and where I live.

7. PayPal make my 14 year old account limited.  They cancel my account for mp3@mindfithypnosis.com and I later find out it was because I used this email address to contact them.

8. PayPal Finally respond to one of over 100 emails and explained the issue.  It turned out to be a Link to the psychology test on one of my pages.  Since I had nothing to do with this test anymore I deleted the page in concern.  I requested a call from PayPal customer service

9. PayPal called me and advised me that since I repeatedly violated the User Agreement  (Had a link to another website that they had ruled was infringing another copyright) I was banned for life from PayPal.  In additional any accounts associated with me would also be banned.  I was advised if I changed my name and the url of my offending website, and never advised them, I would be able to use PayPal again.

PayPal advised me more than 60 times I had violated their Acceptance Policy but only after 18 months and over 100 emails told me WHAT that Violation was.  But PayPal Customer Service say they I should have known what I was supposed to do and this is all my purposeful intention to ignore their request.

The Staff acknowledged that she had the ability to make all of this go away and reinstate my accounts and take my name off the blacklist.  She said she had no reason to doubt that I was only made aware the day before her call why I was having issues, and that I removed the link of concern.  She acknowledged that essentially PayPal believed  that I was an evil criminal because of a link they never told me they where concerned about.  They said that my concerns with the people I helped start a business were real concerns and that they would close those when they found out about them as well.

How PayPal Steal your Money (And the Charities associated with my name)

When PayPal locked an account they say they will keep the money for 180 days just in-case someone claims a chargeback.  Even if they close your account for reasons other than suspect sales – they hold your money.

When the account is locked, you are unable to add or change Bank Accounts.  Even after the account is released for funds you are unable to

* send or request money
* receive payments
* add funds to your account
* close your account

Since PayPal closed most of my accounts a day or two after they where opened, I did not attach a Bank account to them.  But I could not as I only have 3 Bank Accounts (One in New Zealand, One in American and one in Thailand).  PayPal only allows one bank account for any one PayPal account.

The end result is, even when my accounts (with a few thousand dollars) are released, I am unable to send those funds to another Paypal, nor add a Bank account to the account, or close the account with a Bank attached to it, so that I can use that Bank with another account.

Essentially PayPal hold your money for 180 days and then restrict your ability to get that money back unless the account has a bank account attached to it..  Now if I was the criminal PayPal have decided I am, I would simply create new bogas accounts and find a way to transfer money around.  But I am not.  I have 14 years of a good brand name (Mindfit Hypnosis), I have had less than 0.05% of people asking for refund using PayPal, and I have paid PayPal several 10,000’s of dollars in fees.

PayPal has locked down my bank accounts that I attached to new accounts in an honest attempt to do business. And any new Accounts I make I can not attach any of my Bank accounts to.  So essentially no new online business BECAUSE of one link on one page I was not told was a concern to PayPal for 18 months

The Charities who PayPal have Stolen from, and will not help.

In Burma, poor families who have no work take their lives in their hands and come across the boarder to Thailand.  The Burmese Army regularly shot and kill these families (The Army claims it does not – but footage is widely available on FaceBook and in Asian Media).

The Burmese migrant workers bring their children who usually end up working along side the parents in the fields or factories.  The charity my closed account is associated (I will not name it for fears of PayPal closing any future accounts) provides schools for these children.  The children are educated, feed, clothed and given medical care in an attempt to stop the cycle of Child Labor.

PayPal does not care that the accounts they closed are associated with a Charity to prevent Child Labor.

PayPal accepted a Lawyers letter, saying that I was linking to a website that had copyright infringed material.  Rather than answer any of many emails asking for assistance, PayPal closed many accounts associated with my name and Business.

PayPal has never shown any interest in finding out my side of the situation.  They did all of this based on what I found out 18 months later was a letter complaining I linked to another website.

If this concerns you please email and advise PayPal here

Ask them to un-blacklist Andrew Dobson, so that he can transfer donations made to charity on his PayPal and Bank accounts to the children, and continue to help feed, educate and clothe children
